      Gearing up for the Academy Awards this Sunday night? We can help. Don’t miss the unique chance to see rarely shown, Oscar-Nominated Animated and Live-Action Short Films at Cine. And there’s more! The Artist is a strong Best Picture contender that will pull you straight back into the magic of silent Hollywood, and A Dangerous Method offers a star-studded, powerful film from director David Cronenberg that certainly deserved more Oscar buzz than it has received.

      Treat yourself this week to Dinner and a Movie. Cine has added 50/50 and The Big Year to the line-up, and the director spotlight will be on Wong Kar Wai with his 2046 this Tuesday.

      Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays are never boring at The National, in fact we look forward to these formerly dull days. Join us this week for Dinner and a Movie and you can too. If not tonight, see us on Tuesday before Cine’s special screening of the horror classic, Psycho.

      This Wednesday we’re thrilled to welcome David Hirsch, the Pinot Pioneer of the West Sonoma Coast, to The National for a tasting of exceptional wines. For more than 30 years Hirsch Vineyards has produced highly regarded, well balanced pinots and chardonnays that are deeply representative of site and vintage.

      We hope you’ll join us Wednesday, October 19 at 5:30 in the bar or at a reserved table in the dining room if you prefer. We’ll be tasting three of Mr. Hirsch’s pinot noirs and his chardonnay accompanied by some of Peter’s snacks.

      A chilly, rainy evening means it’s the perfect night to join us for dinner and a movie. Along with The Guard and Sarah’s Key, Cine is featuring a special showing of World on a Wire at 7:30pm as part of the Fall Director Spotlight Series. “A dystopic science-fiction epic, World on a Wire is German wunderkind Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s gloriously cracked, boundlessly inventive take on future paranoia.” Don’t miss the unique opportunity to see this fantastic sci-fi thriller from 1973!
